Psychiatric evaluation
The evaluation and diagnosis phase plays a crucial role in the start of mental health care, allowing a holistic understanding of an individual's psychological well-being and evaluating the presence, severity, and impact of any psychiatric conditions. Careful and thorough evaluations enable accurate diagnosis of any mental health condition and guide the proper treatment plan.
Comprehensive Evaluation Process
Should we decide to move forward, following the initial consultation we will schedule a 60-minute comprehensive evaluation to take place either in person or online. The goal of an evaluation is to understand your unique circumstances, concerns, and goals, as well as your overall psychological functioning.
During this process, you can expect an in-depth interview during which I gather detailed information about your symptoms, personal history, and current life circumstances and incorporate that with information from our initial consultation call, your intake paperwork, and any additional information such as collateral information or medical records from your previous providers.
Utilizing evidence-based practices, clinical tools, and a range of exams and assessments, I will then develop an initial formulation and a thoughtful preliminary diagnosis, along with a suggested treatment plan. It is important to understand that a diagnosis is subject to change as I get to know you better.
My process is designed to ensure that you get the most effective and efficient treatment possible, one that is individualized and fosters improving your quality of life. I may also refer you to other specialists for further assessment if I am concerned about a medical issue that could be contributing to the picture and work with them to come up with the most comprehensive and supportive plan.
Second Opinions
If you are seeking a second opinion, I will conduct an evaluation similar to the one described above, however, I am also able to review the diagnosis and treatment proposed by the other provider. It is my goal to help you make an informed choice about your treatment.
Occupational and Legal Assessments
Oftentimes, performance-based psychiatric evaluations are necessary outside of a clinical setting; for academic, occupational, or legal purposes to determine person’s cognitive, functional, or behavioral performance.
I hold these psychiatric evaluations for patients referred by physicians in order to provide forensic assessments, capacity evaluations, and other types of expert services. An evaluation could include client and collateral interviews, testing, record review, telephone calls, letters, reports, attorney consultation, deposition, testimony preparation, and testimony.
